Official trailer and plot of Retro

The plot of Retro centers around the life of Paari, a man harboring deep resentment towards his father who has consistently rejected him throughout his life. A turning point arrives when Paari’s mother passes away, leading him to encounter Rukmini. Over time, he develops feelings for her.

He consistently stays faithful to the criminal organization’s longstanding empire, functioning primarily as an underling or right-hand man within it.

During this time, Paari chooses to depart from the criminal life, tie the knot with Rukmini, and embark on a new journey of his own.

A string of misfortunes and a confrontation with his father sadly result in his incarceration as Rukmini departs to an unspecified place. Five years later, he is granted bail, promptly setting off in search of Rukmini.

Nevertheless, the past continues to weigh heavily on him, and the narrative unfolds as Paari discovers his genuine origins and bravely battles against it, ultimately abandoning violence forever.

Or, in a more conversational tone: But the past keeps coming back to haunt him, and we follow along as Paari uncovers his true heritage, stands up to it fearlessly, and eventually renounces violence for good.

The movie is both written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, self-produced by Suriya alongside his wife Jyotika, Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, and Rajsekar Pandian. Santhosh Narayanan handles the film’s musical composition.
