Disney has officially revealed that the release date for “The Dog Stars,” a post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie produced by 20th Century Studios and directed by Ridley Scott, is set. The film will be adapted from Peter Heller’s critically acclaimed novel of the same title published in 2012.

The highly-anticipated film, “The Dog Stars,” has been set to premiere in movie theaters on March 27, 2026. The stellar cast will be headlined by Jacob Elordi, best known for his role in Euphoria, who takes on the lead role of Hig, a civilian pilot. He is supported by Margaret Qualley (Substance), Josh Brolin (Dune), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), and Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange).
The film is helmed by Scott, who also collaborated with Mark L. Smith and Christopher Wilkinson on the script. It’s overseen by Heller, Lily Brooks-Dalton, and Brandon Scott Smith in executive roles. Additionally, Scott, Mark L. Smith, Michael Pruss, and Cliff Roberts are the producers. The production companies behind this project are 20th Century Studios and Scott Free.

In the summary of the initial novel, we find Hig living in a deserted airport hangar with his dog, Jasper, and a grumpy, gun-wielding loner named Bangley. His wife is missing, and his friends are deceased. A faint radio transmission from a 1956 Cessna gives him a glimmer of hope that a superior life lies beyond their rigid boundaries. Defying all caution, he soars past the point of no return, tracing the static-ridden signal. What awaits him surpasses any optimistic expectation but also brings unexpected hardships.
