Rian Johnson has given an update on his Star Wars trilogy.
Previously, Rian Johnson steered the much-discussed Star Wars: The Last Jedi for Lucasfilm in 2017. Just a month before this film’s release, it was made public that Johnson would lead a brand-new trilogy of Star Wars films; nevertheless, this project has not yet materialized, and there have been scarce updates about its progress in subsequent years.
What did Rian Johnson say about his Star Wars movies?
In conversation with The Independent, Johnson explained the reasons behind the delayed movie productions and discussed whether there’s any chance they might be produced in the future.
As a gamer, I exclaimed, “What’s going on? Seems like I’ve stumbled upon another whodunit! Right now, my focus is elsewhere, engrossed in different projects. Yet, who knows what the future holds? If given the chance to return to the Star Wars universe again, I can assure you, I would be overjoyed beyond words.
Concerning the divided responses among Star Wars enthusiasts towards The Last Jedi, Johnson emphasized that he didn’t endure anything akin to living hell. Instead, he had an opportunity that filmmakers can only dream of. When the prequels were released, he was in his twenties, and I assure you, there were disagreements among Star Wars fans back then – we lived through our own. The prequels were like World War I, while The Last Jedi was more akin to World War II.
…”However, I must say that interacting with the fans throughout this journey has been truly delightful and uplifting. It’s deepened my love for Star Wars, a connection that started in my childhood, making me an even bigger fan than before.
In the upcoming period of this year, you’ll find Johnson’s new film titled Knives Out, called Wake Up Dead Man, hitting the screens. On the other hand, the next installment of Star Wars is The Mandalorian and Grogu, set to premiere in May 2026.
