For a while now, Silambarasan TR’s STR50 has been grabbing attention, not just as an actor but also as a producer. Recently, he disclosed some information about his next venture, indicating that he will portray a character with a distinctly feminine aspect in it.
During an interview on Behindwoods TV with director-actor KS Ravikumar, the Maanaadu actor revealed that he will portray a character typically associated with female roles in the film, much like what Kamal Haasan and Ajith Kumar have done previously. He had previously discussed this unique opportunity with Kamal Haasan himself. As actors, they strive to take on fresh challenges and diverse roles regularly.
For those not in the know, Silambarasan TR’s period epic initially referred to as STR48, which was directed by Desingh Periasamy, encountered major setbacks in its production. Originally, it was planned under Kamal Haasan’s banner Raaj Kamal Film International (RKFI), but the project experienced significant postponements.
During the same discussion, Kamal Haasan disclosed that he needed to withdraw from the project because of his dedication to Thug Life and the necessity to make room in Simbu’s schedule for a directorial venture by Mani Ratnam. Now, STR (Simbu) will assume the role of the film’s producer, with Yuvan Shankar Raja handling the music composition.
In the upcoming movie “Thug Life,” Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan portray a father-son duo. This gangster action film set in the past is directed by Mani Ratnam. The narrative revolves around Rangaraaya Sakthivel, a notorious gangster, who along with his sibling, takes in and raises a boy named Amaran after saving him from some predicament.
In time, it was believed that the old-timer in the underworld had passed away, but he resurfaced under whispers that Amaran desired his removal from the mafia. Enraged, Rangaraaya Sakthivel is set on avenging this perceived slight, igniting a lethal conflict between them both.
Featuring Kamal Haasan and Simbu (Silambarasan), this movie boasts a talented supporting cast including Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, among others, who play significant roles. Notably, this production represents the return of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam to work together since their initial collaboration on Nayakan (1987). Intriguingly, they have jointly penned the screenplay for this project.
Moving forward, it has been announced that Silambarasan will be featured in an upcoming movie, provisionally named STR49. The role of the female lead will be played by Kayadu Lohar, who gained popularity through her work in “Dragon”.
