This year’s sensationally popular game Atomfall, developed by Rebellion, has been labeled as “instantaneously profitable” in terms of its success, based on reports from The Game Business.
The game, launched in March, received an outstanding response from critics and marked the studio’s largest debut to date.
A significant portion of its success is due to its availability on Game Pass; however, comments from Rebellion indicate that it has also performed well using conventional sales methods.
In the video interview, it was noted that the significant achievement of Atomfall has sparked internal conversations about future plans.
Jason Kingsley, CEO of Rebellion, is contemplating the next steps for Atomfall. He muses, ‘Will we continue with downloadable content? Should we consider a sequel or perhaps some spin-off projects?’
He goes on, emphasizing the importance of striking a balance between “continuations and fresh concepts,” recognizing that the latest game now stands alongside Sniper Elite and Zombie Army as among the studio’s most prominent franchises.
In essence, Kingsley emphasizes that the ultimate goal is to create engaging content that people enjoy and keep returning to. If someone purchases one of our games, he hopes they will think it was worthwhile and ponder what other exciting games we have in our collection. This indicates that we’ve managed to maintain their satisfaction.
Given the extraordinary success of Atomfall, it seems highly likely that we’ll see a follow-up. This is particularly evident when compared to Sniper Elite, a franchise that has produced numerous sequels and offshoots.
