Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has established its own gaming division, xAI Games, which focuses on delivering engaging gaming experiences powered by advanced AI technology. One of the games they have promoted so far is Bonk Hero, a game that appears to be inspired by Halfbrick Studios’ popular title Jetpack Joyride.
20th May, 2025 saw xAI Gaming unveil its innovative gaming format on their X platform via social media. In clear text, they announced that their game would deviate from conventional gaming by utilizing sophisticated AI to adapt challenges, stories, and environments instantaneously, thereby offering a distinct experience tailored for each gamer.
In a groundbreaking move, xAI Gaming unveils an innovative method of gaming on the X platform, merging top-notch artificial intelligence with captivating gameplay to generate tailored experiences based on individual playing styles and preferences. Unlike conventional gaming, xAI Gaming uses advanced AI to modify challenges, storylines, and settings in real-time, ensuring customized journeys that adapt as you make choices. With its seamless integration into X’s thriving community, players can easily collaborate, compete, and exchange ideas, making xAI Gaming a bustling social space where imagination and strategy intersect, reshaping the very essence of gaming.
Right after this, xAI Gaming shared a game titled Bonk Hero, a replica that runs on the Solana blockchain, allowing players to earn as they play. The following game, visible below, bears striking similarities to Halfbrick Studios’ 2011 hit mobile game, Jetpack Joyride, suggesting a noticeable imitation.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, xAI really hyped up the game with some heartfelt compliments like “This game is actually pretty cool!” and “Alright, I’m all in for some genuine gaming experience!” and “Wow, this is definitely a game!” and “I can’t believe you guys are sleeping on this game!” That’s some seriously glowing praise right there.
To drive the point home even more: Artificial Intelligence games are disappointing. Microsoft recently unveiled a poorly executed AI version of Quake, a cherished IP. It’s as awful as one might expect. In 2024, Google DeepMind’s Open-Endedness Team introduced Genie, an AI capable of producing 2D “playable” platformers. Unfortunately, these creations are far from impressive.
There’s a method for designing video games without directly copying human efforts, yet cases of plagiarism still arise (as Bungie found out recently). In an industry where thousands of game developers lose their jobs annually, it’s disheartening to observe the persisting trend towards using AI for artistic creation.
