Nintendo could be remaking DS classic Hotel Dusk as new trademarks are published online

As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled at the prospect of revisiting one of my all-time favorites – Hotel Dusk: Room 215! It seems that Nintendo might be working on a remake, possibly for the Nintendo Switch or even the rumored Nintendo Switch 2. In an unexpected move, Nintendo has recently filed a new trademark for this classic point-and-click adventure game through the Japan Platform for Patent Information.

As a gaming enthusiast, I recently stumbled upon an exciting piece of news – GameSpark, in collaboration with VGC, has officially trademarked the Western name of the game in Japan for the first time! While they’re still holding onto the trademarks for the Japanese title, Wish Room, and its sequel Last Window, it’s a significant step forward. The Japanese Patent Information platform is where you can find all the details about these trademarks.

Could Hotel Dusk have a remake in development?

Originally created by the closed studio Cing, Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and its follow-up Last Window: The Secret of Cape West were produced. Although the studio no longer exists, Nintendo has recently launched comprehensive remakes of the team’s Another Code games on their Nintendo Switch system.

Before Another Code: Recollection hit the market, Nintendo had already filed a trademark for its Western title and logo five years prior to release. Now that they’ve officially registered the trademark for Hotel Dusk: Room 215, there’s a chance we might be looking forward to a surprise remake within a few years.

Upon the release of Another Code: Recollection, a multitude of fans of Cing’s studio expressed interest in remakes of their other titles. Given that Nintendo intends to continue supporting the original Nintendo Switch beyond the launch of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, it seems feasible that such remakes could be cross-generation releases.

There are some challenges that come with updating the DS game for current platforms. Originally, Hotel Dusk heavily utilized the unique Nintendo DS hardware, with gameplay taking place in portrait mode while players held the device like a book. A remake on the Switch or future versions of it would offer a significantly different gaming experience.

Indeed, it’s wonderful to imagine a revival of Hotel Dusk: Room 215 for today’s audience. Given its status as an exceptional visual novel mystery, it seems fitting that the series receives a complete remake, catering to its dedicated fans.

If you’re seeking fast-paced action, look elsewhere. However, if you appreciate the timeless charm of point-and-click games, grab this opportunity! You’ll discover one of the most intriguing and stylish gaming worlds in a while. But remember to save your progress frequently.
