AP and Telangana theaters likely to shut down from June 1 amidst Pawan Kalyan’s HHVM, Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life release

In the springtime of 2025, a number of captivating films are set to premiere in Southern cinemas. Among them are Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu and Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life, along with others. Lately, there appears to be some apprehension regarding the outcome of these movies.

According to a report by Cinema Express, movie theaters in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh may close down or experience a strike starting from June 1.

Approximately 60 movie theater owners recently held a meeting with prominent film producers such as Dil Raju and Suresh Babu, aiming to find solutions for ongoing disputes related to the existing rental system used by filmmakers for revenue sharing.

The meeting ended under the insistence of the exhibitors, who requested a change from the current fixed revenue model to a more flexible percentage-based one instead.

Concerns have arisen about certain movies that shift to streaming platforms sooner than the preferred duration for a cinematic release.

A proposal has been put forward to delay the online premiere of movies, allowing them to finish the required theater run for a more extended period first.

In summary, the agreement reached during the meeting led to the theater owners advocating for a total closure (bandh) of individual cinemas starting June 1. It was reported that numerous distributors and producers opted not to attend this particular gathering.

Consequently, with no agreement being made, the ongoing strike, or “bandh,” may impact certain major movie premieres initially planned for that period. This includes the films “Hari Hara Veera Mallu” set to release on June 12 and “Thug Life” scheduled for June 5.

If the agreement and resolution continue to be postponed and the strike (bandh) persists longer, it could potentially impact upcoming films such as “Kuberra” starring Dhanush (releasing on June 20) and “Kannappa” featuring Vishnu Manchu (set for release on June 27).

The outcome of the upcoming meeting between film producers and theater owners remains uncertain; it may be swiftly addressed, or it could prolong. Regardless, the resolution will significantly impact the box office performances of the upcoming major movie releases this month.
