During their conversation, Dax Shepard mentioned Heath Ledger, expressing a sense of obligation to acknowledge him. In response, Williams concurred and shared, “He was one of the most extraordinary young men I’ve ever encountered. His unique burden seemed to weigh heavily on him, which touched me deeply and left me heartbroken. I was truly saddened by his loss, as I believed he was truly exceptional.

Williams also reminisced about the rapid connection she formed with Ledger during his recovery period. She admitted, “I feel it’s important to mention that I got to know him a bit when he was sobering up, and I must admit, I don’t think I’ve ever fallen in love with someone so swiftly.” (via ABC News)

Michelle Williams and Heath Ledger first crossed paths on the set of Brokeback Mountain in 2004, leading to a romantic relationship shortly thereafter. Their daughter, Matilda, was born in 2005, but by 2007 their partnership had come to an end. Heartbreakingly, Ledger lost his life due to an unintentional overdose of prescription medication in January 2008.

Additionally, Williams conveyed heartfelt appreciation for their daughter, stating, “I’m thankful for Matilda.” She has earlier mentioned how Ledger’s love and acceptance significantly influenced her life, telling Vanity Fair in 2018, “My dad loved me before anyone else saw my talent, or thought I was attractive, or had good fashion sense.

After Ledger passed away, actor Jeremy Strong went on to live with Williams to offer support to her and Matilda during the difficult time. She later praised Strong for his kindness, saying he helped her daughter heal through “play and games and silliness.” (via Variety)

Now, Williams has four children, including three with her husband, Thomas Kail.
