In a recent update, Nicole Kidman shared some fresh insights about the upcoming continuation titled “Magic in Motion 2“, offering glimpses into what viewers can anticipate from this eagerly awaited sequel featuring both her and Sandra Bullock.
What is the latest Practical Magic 2 update?
During a conversation at the Majestic Hotel as part of Kering’s Women in Motion talks at the Cannes Film Festival (as reported by THR), Kidman discussed her upcoming sequel project. This remark was made while she was discussing working with female directors, and Susanne Bier’s name came up in the discussion.
Naomi Kidman expressed her admiration for the director and her anticipation of collaborating with Sandra Bullock once more. She emphasized their long-standing relationship, saying, “Since both Sandy and I have worked together before, we were thrilled when this opportunity arose, as it forms a perfect triangle because we are all familiar with each other. Working on a project that is amusing, magical, and carries a unique message, distinct from Babygirl, makes it even more exciting.
At present, details regarding Practical Magic 2 are scant, but it has been confirmed that Bier will be directing the film following earlier reports of her participation in the project this year.
As a gamer diving into speculation, I’ve heard whispers that the upcoming film seems to be inspired by a later book in Alice Hoffman’s Practical Magic series. However, details beyond that are scarce for now. The screenplay for this potential sequel, Practical Magic 2, is being crafted by Akiva Goldsman, who previously collaborated on the first movie. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are not just playing their roles again, but they’re also stepping up as producers, joining forces with Denise Di Novi to shape this magical journey.
1998 saw the release of Practical Magic, a movie adaptation of Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel by the same name. The story revolves around the Owens sisters, who had to utilize their magical abilities to combat an evil spirit that was harassing them, specifically the boyfriend of one sister who turned abusive. Despite mixed reviews from critics initially, the movie has since garnered a large fanbase in the years following its release.
In the movie, Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman), who come from a mystical family, have generally stayed away from practicing magic. However, after Gillian’s abusive boyfriend, Jimmy Angelov (Goran Visnjic), dies suddenly, the sisters feel compelled to quickly learn powerful magic. As police officer Gary Hallet (Aidan Quinn) starts to suspect something, the sisters try to bring Angelov back to life – unknowingly summoning an evil spirit that could potentially wipe out their family lineage.
In addition to Bullock and Kidman, the movie featured Dianne Wiest, Stockard Channing, and Aidan Quinn as well. This production was directed by Griffin Dunne based on a script co-written by Robin Swicord, Akiva Goldsman, and Adam Brooks.
Bullock and Kidman weren’t the only stars in this film; they were joined by Dianne Wiest, Stockard Channing, and Aidan Quinn too. The director of the movie was Griffin Dunne, while Robin Swicord, Akiva Goldsman, and Adam Brooks collaborated on writing the screenplay.
