Amidst a challenging year marked by serious news, it was heartwarming to witness this second-hand joy online – the beloved anime YouTubers Joey Bisinger (TheAnimeMan) and Agnes Yulo Diego (Akidearest) have announced their engagement.
From DMs to “I Do”
On Instagram, the well-known anime YouTubers revealed their engagement, which occurred on April 25th, 2025 – a few days before their ninth anniversary on July 3rd.
Boasting a combined following of more than 6 million, Akidearest (2.8M) and TheAnimeMan (3.4M) have emerged as influential figures in anime and Japanese pop culture. Now residing in Japan, they share hosting duties on the widely popular Trash Taste podcast with their fellow content creator, Gigguk.
Akidearest once called their relationship “basically archived” on their channels.
They initially bonded as up-and-coming content creators on YouTube, exchanging messages in private, when their channels still had only a few thousand followers each. This marked the beginning of a heartwarming tale that would later be shared publicly.

A Yes Worth The Wait
Joey proposed during a trip to Madagascar, where they had traveled for a convention in Cape Town.
The incident occurred in the privacy of their hotel suite – a suitable setting for a pair who treasure their private moments amidst their busy public personas.
Joey posted a touching photo on Twitter labeled “she said yes,” showcasing him kneeling, while Aki’s Instagram post unveiled the beautiful, red, droplet-shaped alexandrite ring she received.
In their YouTube video detailing the experience, the couple discussed the significance of the ring: Aki, who’s never been fond of diamonds, has always yearned for something distinctive. Her childhood dreams revolved around a ring fashioned from dinosaur bone and meteorite, which she shared with her followers.
Alexandrite, she said, “looks like every color I’ve ever dyed my hair.”
Joey admitted that when attempting to find a ring matching her dreams, he accidentally picked a ring size too small – a common blunder he humorously referred to as “the typical clumsy guy move.” He offered his apologies for the mix-up.
And as for the words he used to propose? He’s keeping those private.
“I decided to put the camera inside the room and not outside, because I wanted the words I said to [Akidearest] to be personal.”
Cue the collective aww.
Wedding and Cheers From Creators
The couple plans to hold their wedding in Japan, now their longtime home.
Ever since the news broke, they’ve been inundated with congratulations from other YouTubers and livestreamers on various social media platforms.
One of them was Marzia Kjellberg, popularly known as itsmarziapie, who is well-known for being the spouse of PewDiePie. She too has gained attention due to her own high-profile romantic involvement with another YouTube personality.
Aki and Joey have successfully maintained a robust relationship across many years of mutual artistic development. Fans who remember them from their earlier videos find this announcement of their engagement as a much-anticipated new phase in their story. So, let’s cheer for them: “Congratulations!
