Summary

  • The Cadre sideboard by Draga & Aurel is a collectible design piece
  • It draws inspiration from Bettina Bürkle’s transparency studies
  • Made from transparent Lucite with green accents, it has sliding doors that create customizable color combinations

Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow, known for pushing creative limits, have revealed their newest creation – the Cadre sideboard. This design duo from the studio views Cadre as a living artwork rather than mere furniture. Instead of being static, it investigates the intriguing interaction between material, light, and color, resulting in an ever-evolving visual sensation.

Drawing inspiration from Bettina Bürkle’s artistic explorations, Cadre encapsulates ideas of transparency and perspective. Bürkle’s work frequently showcases translucent layers and overlapping colors, resulting in ethereal landscapes that seem to change before the observer’s very eyes. Building upon this concept, Draga & Aurel have transformed these artistic themes into a practical, interactive design piece.

Made from Lucite, the Cadre sideboard is vibrantly accented with green elements that scatter and bounce light, adding dimension and dynamism. Its sliding doors move on various planes, intersecting to form new color patterns and configurations that are always evolving. With a quick gesture, users can alter the sideboard’s appearance, transforming it into a highly adaptable work of art that suits diverse atmospheres and environments.

Beyond its practical function, Cadre stands as an evolving sculpture within a living environment. Measuring 170cm in length, 46cm in width and 105cm tall, it invites users to engage with its interactive design, where light, color, and material continuously react to movement and perspective.
