At the red carpet event of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Halle Berry gracefully broke the new dress code rules at Cannes 2025 by wearing a stunning gown featuring a long train. The festival authorities have recently updated their guidelines in an official charter, disallowing nudity for decency purposes and large, voluminous dresses with trains that could potentially obstruct guest movement and create difficulties in theater seating arrangements.
Halle Berry wears dress with train amid Cannes new rule
At the Cannes Film Festival 2025 on May 14th, Halle Berry, an Academy Award winner, wore a black and pink gown designed by Celia Kritharioti. This eye-catching dress featured a long train, and she decided to wear it for the red carpet premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final. It remains unclear if her choice of attire violated any dress code rules at the event, given that Halle Berry was among the attendees.
Currently, Berry is part of the Cannes Film Festival’s official jury panel. A few days ago, during a press conference, she shared that she adjusted her opening-day outfit to comply with the updated dress code regulations.
The Primetime Emmy-winning actress remarked, “Tonight, I can’t wear my stunning Gupta gown as it has an overly large train.” She further commented, “I had to adapt my outfit choice. As for the nudity aspect, I believe that rule is also wise.
Instead of Gourav Gupta’s design, Halle Berry opted for a black-and-white striped Jacquemus gown during the opening ceremony. Yet, her Celia Kritharioti outfit at the Mission Impossible film premiere sparked discussions about whether it adhered to the festival’s revised dress code guidelines.
Together with Berry, online spectators spotted several other famous personalities donning extravagant gowns during their Cannes red carpet events. For instance, Heidi Klum graced one of the red carpets in a large pink Elie Saab Haute Couture gown, complete with a substantial train.
According to the official guidelines set by the Cannes Film Festival, attendees are now required to follow the dress code on the red carpet and other designated areas. The festival organizers have made it clear that they will deny access to anyone who does not abide by these rules. The charter also outlines the acceptable footwear options, stating that both elegant shoes and sandals, with or without a heel, are permissible.
