Summary

  • GUBI reissues Pierre Paulin’s iconic F300 chair from the 1960s, now made with recycled plastic.

  • GUBI also rereleases Paulin’s T877 side table in new colors alongside the F300 chair reissue.

Design company GUBI is reviving a historic design from Pierre Paulin, originally created in the late ’60s. Known as the F300, this piece of furniture has become a cult classic, though it was previously obtainable only through vintage dealers. Now, it’s back on the market!

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve had the privilege of teaming up with Benjamin Paulin, son of Pierre Paulin, in a unique project with GUBI. We’ve painstakingly recreated the essence of the original chair, but with a modern twist tailored to fit today’s lifestyle.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to note that the iconic futuristic design and flowing contours of the F300 continue to stand out. However, there’s a significant change worth mentioning – it’s in the material used. Initially, the chair’s shell was crafted from fiberglass and injected polyurethane. But with an increasing emphasis on eco-friendly furniture, the seat has been redesigned using an engineered polymer derived from industrial plastic waste, reflecting our growing commitment to sustainability.

As a delighted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the color options have been expanded! The shell now dons a radiant alabaster white and a soft, pastel green shade. The upholstery, on the other hand, offers a vibrant array of colors – from a bold yellow to a deep, rich red.

Benjamin Paulin remarks, “The F300 truly captures my father’s design philosophy, which combined sculptural beauty with elegance and comfort. This chair isn’t just an eye-catching piece of art; it’s a testament to thorough research and a deep understanding of seating dynamics.” He further explains, “While the F300 is indeed visually striking and has a unique playfulness, it’s not merely a photographic sculptural curiosity. Its design stems from practical insights into how people sit comfortably. In fact, sitting in the F300 almost forces you to unwind.

In addition to the relaunch of their iconic chair, GUBI is also reintroducing the T877 side table. Similar to the F300 shell, this table is made from the same material but now comes in fresh hues: Violet Ice, Honey Gold, and Molé.

Beginning on mid-May, both the T877 and F300 models can be found in retail outlets. The T877 retails for £299 GBP ($399 USD), while the F300 is priced at £1,799 GBP ($2,299 USD).
