Who is Larry Strickland?
Larry Strickland hails from America and was once a backup singer for legendary artist Elvis Presley. He’s particularly well-known because he’s married to renowned country music star Naomi Judd.
The deep, resonant tone of his voice and his background in traditional gospel music from the South have been crucial factors contributing to the longevity of his successful career within the music business.
From childhood, Struckland nurtured a profound love for gospel tunes. At 12, he chose to join the U.S. military, serving honorably for four years, including his time stationed in Germany and with the National Security Agency.
In 1974, he started performing with J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, who were Elvis Presley’s backing group. After that, he went on numerous tours with Elvis until the singer’s death in 1977, taking part in more than 200 shows together.
Relationship with Naomi Watts
Back in the vibrant year of 1979, as I was immersed in the bustling cityscape of Nashville, I had the incredible fortune to cross paths with the extraordinary Naomi Judd. At that time, she was on the brink of stardom, her partnership with her talented daughter Wynonna in their duo, The Judds, resonating through the music scene like a beautiful harmony.
Ten years passed before they tied the knot, in May of 1989. Yet, their union was fraught with challenges, such as one instance where Naomi Judd pointed a firearm at her husband, Larry Strickland.
In The Judd Family: Truth Be Told, Larry Strickland revealed that Naomi challenged him under the threat of a gun. Earlier representations of this incident were shown in a 1995 television movie based on Love Can Build a Bridge, a film adaptation inspired by Naomi’s autobiography.
In the movie, Naomi’s on-screen role shoots at Larry Strickland’s character after discovering their affair. A new documentary has disclosed that Larry Strickland himself confirmed the scene happened in real life.
He said,
“Well, it really happened. That’s all I can say. That’s all I’m gonna say. It happened.”

He always made sure to let her know precisely his destination and estimated return time before leaving the house.
In April 2022, it was tragically announced that Naomi Judd had taken her own life, mere days before The Judds were due to be honored at the Country Music Hall of Fame. Following her passing, Larry Strickland chose to relocate from their home in Tennessee and settle in Florida instead.
