X-Men ’97 Adds Scream Star to Season 2 as Fan-Favorite Mutant

X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo has confirmed a casting rumor regarding the upcoming second season.

In March 2024, X-Men ’97 made its debut on Disney+. This series, a reboot of X-Men: The Animated Series, was initially conceptualized by DeMayo. Interestingly, DeMayo was dismissed from the project just as the first season was about to air, following his work on the initial two seasons.

What X-Men ’97 casting rumor did Beau DeMayo confirm?

Previously this week, it was rumored by source MyTimeToShineHello that Scream actress Neve Campbell was set to portray the Marvel Comics Universe (MCU) character Polaris. However, ComicBookMovie later clarified that Campbell’s role would be voicing Polaris in X-Men ’97 Season 2, not playing the character in live-action.

In response to a certain post about X, DeMayo clarified that while Campbell was initially set to play Polaris in a live-action format, she will actually appear in X-Men ’97 Season 2 instead.

DeMayo stated that she miscast someone as Polaris for Season 2 of #xmen97. However, he appreciates her exceptional performance and believes it was fitting to have a ’90s icon continue Lorna’s story from “Cold Comfort.” She has some thoughts on Genosha.

Neve Campbell is primarily recognized for her portrayal of Sidney Prescott in the Scream series, a character she’ll reappear as in Scream 7 set to hit theaters in February 2026. Her film credits span across titles like The Craft (1996), Wild Things (1998), Panic (2000), The Company (2003), Skyscraper (2018), and numerous others. On television, Campbell has featured in shows such as Catwalk, Party of Five, Medium, The Philanthropist, House of Cards, The Lincoln Lawyer, Twisted Metal, and various other productions.

Polaris, a character conceived by Arnold Drake and Jim Steranko, made her debut in Marvel Comics in The X-Men #49, published in 1986. She is the offspring of Magneto and shares his magnetic control capabilities. You may recognize her from Fox’s television series, The Gifted, which is a Marvel Comics production set in an alternate timeline to the Fox X-Men series that ran for two seasons. In this show, she was portrayed by Emma Dumont.

A premiere date for X-Men ’97 Season 2 has not yet been announced.
