Microsoft has announced that it plans to reduce its workforce by 3%, which equates to a significant number of employees being let go from different departments within the company.
As a gamer, I’ve heard the news that Microsoft is making some changes within their organization. In my own words, it’s like when you have too many levels in a game and you need to simplify the structure for smoother gameplay – that’s what they’re doing. They want to streamline their management structure by reducing the number of layers, making it easier for them to adapt and thrive in this fast-paced market.
This news follows the release of Microsoft’s Q3 2025 financial results approximately two weeks ago, where the company surpassed forecasts regarding both revenue and earnings per share (EPS). As a significant employer with more than 228,000 staff members, these layoffs are expected to impact around 6,000-7,000 employees.
In simple terms, this recent round of job cuts at our company is the largest since Microsoft made 10,000 layoffs in 2023. The exact departments within Microsoft that will be affected by these layoffs haven’t been specified yet, but it’s anticipated that they will span across various areas. To add to this, earlier this month, Microsoft increased the prices of Xbox consoles and related accessories, with game prices set to rise later in the year as well.
