Deadpool & Wolverine’s Shawn Levy Is Making a Madonna Netflix Show

Director Shawn Levy, known for his work with Deadpool and Wolverine, is currently developing a Netflix series centered around the life and musical career of Madonna.

Before taking on Deadpool & Wolverine, Shawn Levy has previously directed films like Cheaper by the Dozen (2003), Night at the Museum (2006), Date Night (2010), Real Steel (2011), and Free Guy (2021, among others. Currently, he’s involved in a Star Wars project titled Star Wars: Starfighter, which is scheduled for release in 2027.

According to the deadline, Levy, together with his 21 Laps production company, and Madonna, are serving as executive producers for the upcoming series.

The project underway is entirely independent from the Madonna biopic movie that was abandoned in January 2023, where Julia Garner (known for her roles in Ozark and Wolf Man) had been initially cast as the pop icon. Other actresses like Florence Pugh, Alexa Demie, Odessa Young, and Bebe Rexha were previously put through singing and dancing workshops with aspirations to secure the role.

According to an article in Deadline, Garner has continued to be involved – she was seen performing with Madonna during the singer’s Celebration Tour in December 2023. It is suggested that the Ozark actress may take on the role of Madonna, assuming her schedule permits as she currently doesn’t have a contract. Additionally, the article mentions that Garner will feel comfortable working with Netflix, having recently signed on for her third series there following her roles in Inventing Anna and Ozark.

The TV show about Madonna’s life may focus on different aspects of her career rather than her entire life since the project is currently in its initial stages.

There’s also some doubt about whether Madonna might contribute more significantly to the project than just serving as an executive producer, such as working on the script. Previously, she had been collaborating with Diablo Cody and Cressida Wilson on a feature film script that was in development.
