In an unfolding narrative that seems more like a lengthy mix of tragedy and comedy, the American political scene persists in merging satire and actuality, a dichotomy that the series “The Boys” appears to have foreseen with uncanny accuracy.
The main character of the series, Homelander, who wears a cape, bears an increasingly unintentional resemblance to Donald Trump as the show progresses, although it was never explicitly stated that he was modeled after him.
Trump’s Papal Moment
In a contrasting stance, Antony Starr asserts his character isn’t an exact replica of Donald Trump, but it appears that The Boys’ promotional team is not overly focused on maintaining plausible deniability.
To illustrate, following Trump’s recent social media faux pas featuring an odd AI depiction of him dressed as a Pope, the show playfully declared that Homelander had expressed interest in assuming the papal role.
The image that came with it was strikingly authentic: clenched hands, tranquil eyes, a white miter perched atop his platinum-hued hair. To be honest, he seemed better suited for the position than the initial choice.
The timing was exceptionally audacious, with the post emerging not long after Pope Francis’ demise, further enhancing the insensitivity of Trump’s ill-timed imitation.
Was it an homage? A joke? A power grab?
Enter: The Boys, And A Better Pope
For The Boys, it presented an ideal situation, a chance that was almost too good to be true. Their caption, however, was far from subtle in its criticism of Trump’s grandeur: “HOMELANDER: AN EXCELLENT PICK FOR POPE.” Emphasis theirs.
A post on The Boys’ social media platform humorously suggests that one potential candidate for pope is Homelander. In a selfless gesture, this esteemed figure has put forward his name for consideration for the highest religious position in the world.

As a devoted fan, I find it fascinating how the show initially set out to mock power, delusions, and unbridled egos. Now, it seems like they could be pulling their storylines directly from today’s headlines!
In a 2024 interview, Starr openly acknowledged that while Homelander isn’t an exact satire, there is a very clear real-life figure shaping his character. It’s not hard to identify who this person might be.
On the other hand, the similarities between the two characters become increasingly profound – not just in appearance, but in the chilling aspect that both seem to genuinely embrace their own mythology.
Let’s hope one of them doesn’t develop laser vision.
