NBC has decided to continue airing the long-standing hits, “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU)”, for Seasons 25 and 27 respectively. These legal dramas are among the most watched shows in the U.S., with a large number of viewers tuning in. The original series, “Law & Order”, premiered on NBC in 1990, while its spin-off, “Special Victims Unit”, has been on the air since 1999.
NBC’s Law & Order and SVU get renewed for new seasons
As per a report from NBC News, NBC has decided to extend both of its most popular series, Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, for the television seasons spanning 2025-2026. Specifically, Law & Order is gearing up for its 25th season, while Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will mark its 27th season in this timeframe.
On May 15, 2025, the final episodes of Season 24 of Law & Order and Season 26 of Special Victims Unit will be broadcasted. Excitingly, the wait won’t be much longer as these seasons are about to air soon! NBC decided to renew these shows following significant increases in viewership for them.
For several years, Law & Order has consistently seen a 112% rise in seasons on the Peacock platform. Conversely, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has recorded a modest 5% increase in viewership. According to data gathered from NBC and Peacock, both series have attracted over 44 million viewers during the current season.
Dick Wolf’s Law & Order series are among NBC’s longest-running franchises. Besides the initial Law & Order and Special Victims Unit, there’s another offshoot of the legal drama – Law & Order: Organized Crime. This series, now in its fifth season, is available on the streaming platform, Peacock.
Currently, NBC hasn’t disclosed when the new seasons for these Law & Order series will be airing.
