Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza are simply impossible without Nintendo Switch 2, explains Nintendo president

During the debut of the Nintendo Switch 2, two highly anticipated games will be available: Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Frenzy. Despite some people claiming that these yet-to-be-released games visually resemble original Switch games, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has asserted that creating these games for the previous handheld device would be entirely impractical.

In the vast, bustling open world of Mario Kart World and the action-packed, physics-driven environment of Donkey Kong Bananza, these games have the potential to overload the original Nintendo Switch. Yet, some remain unconvinced.

Nintendo president pushes back Switch 2 doubters

During a recent earnings conference, when Nintendo announced its high expectations for the initial sales of the Switch 2, Furukawa defended the hardware of the upcoming handheld device against skeptical investors.

According to the president, the enhanced hardware processing capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2 are essential for software developers to help achieve one of Nintendo’s key objectives – presenting innovative methods of gameplay.

Furukawa pointed out that although the exterior of the new handheld device might appear similar, it’s important to note that its underlying hardware and accessories have been completely redesigned.

Despite some criticism towards the Switch 2’s hardware since its unveiling, particularly concerning Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, Furukawa clarifies that these games were not feasible to develop using the capabilities of the initial handheld device.

As a passionate gamer, I’ve been blown away by the Nintendo Switch 2! It’s already showing its worth with titles like Hogwarts Legacy boasting next-gen features that were previously exclusive. But the cherry on top? Games such as Cyberpunk 2077 are now playable on this system, along with real-time ray-tracing and DLSS technology! This upgrade has truly leveled up my gaming experience.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say that while this new console is sleek and portable, there are still some significant constraints. For instance, the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws port doesn’t seem quite polished yet. But here’s the thing – the magic of any Nintendo device lies in the incredible possibilities it presents, and I have no doubt they’ll squeeze every last drop of potential out of this one.
