The John Wick spin-off film Caine is bringing back another star from the film’s franchise.
Who has joined the John Wick Caine spin-off?
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the talented Rina Sawayama is set to make a comeback on the big screen for the Donnie Yen-led spin-off of the John Wick franchise. She’ll be reprising her enigmatic role as the daughter of Shimazu Koji, portrayed by Hiroyuki Sanada, in this new chapter – none other than Shimazu Akira, a character we were introduced to in John Wick: Chapter 4.
Although much about the film titled Caine remains unclear, it’s been announced that Yen will serve as both director and executive producer. This marks his debut as a director of an English-language feature film. Mattson Tomlin has signed on to write the screenplay for the spin-off, based on a previous draft by Robert Askins. Chad Stahelski, known for directing John Wick, will produce the film under 87Eleven Entertainment, alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee from Thunder Road. Filming is anticipated to start this year.
Last month, Yen expressed his excitement and inspiration, stating he was eager to start working on the movie. Regarding the casting of Sawayama, John Wick regular Chad Stahelski applauded the return of the “powerful” character, expressing his anticipation for collaboration.
As a huge admirer, I must say that Rina truly embodies a fearless spirit. In Chapter 4, she brought the role to life in an extraordinary way that left me eagerly anticipating their paths crossing once more with John Caine.

In the fourth installment of John Wick, Caine is hired by The High Table to eliminate John Wick, a former ally, as a means of self-preservation and protection for his daughter.
At the movie’s conclusion, Caine managed to secure his liberty and was depicted visiting his daughter after the credits rolled. However, this peaceful moment was disrupted when Akira, the vengeful offspring of Shimazu Koji whom Caine had previously slain, launched an attack against him.
