It seems that there could potentially be a collaboration between Deadpool and the X-Men, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, as actor Ryan Reynolds is contemplating the creation of a movie featuring both characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What do we know about the Deadpool & X-Men movie?
According to THR’s report, although Ryan Reynolds firmly stated he wouldn’t do a standalone Deadpool film after 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, it doesn’t rule out his potential return as Deadpool. Intriguingly, THR added that Reynolds has been brainstorming concepts for a future Deadpool movie, which might include the famous X-Men team as well.
The film, as stated by THR, is expected to showcase around three to four X-Men characters prominently. While Deadpool will make an appearance, he will take a supporting role rather than being the primary character. This setup would highlight the main X-Men characters and also give room for Deadpool to continue his usual mischievous activities that fans love.
This film is rumored to stand alone, distinct from the upcoming X-Men movie penned by Michael Lesslie. The storyline will supposedly introduce the team into the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, no details about the characters set to appear in this movie have been disclosed so far. As of now, the project is in its infancy and quite a distance from becoming a reality. The Hollywood Reporter has mentioned that Ryan Reynolds is working on this project independently from Marvel Studios, suggesting it could be some time before all pieces fall into place.
It’s not really shocking that Reynolds enjoys the X-Men series, given that Deadpool and Wolverine have shared screen time with several X-Men characters such as Sabertooth (Tyler Mane), Pyro (Aaron Stanford), Gambit (Channing Tatum), and multiple versions of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). Moreover, previous Deadpool projects also included X-Men characters. For instance, in Deadpool 2, Colossus (Stefan Kapičić) and Cable (Josh Brolin), Domino (Zazie Beetz), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), among others, made appearances.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), we’re seeing the X-Men team make their presence felt more frequently. For instance, in the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday,” fans can expect to see characters from the original X-Men movie trilogy such as Professor X (played by Patrick Stewart), Magneto (portrayed by Ian McKellen), Cyclops (James Marsden), Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), Beast (Kelsey Grammer), and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn).
