Rian Johnson shares tidbits on his upcoming venture and the prospects for the “Knives Out” series.
In 2017, it was announced that Johnson, known for directing the controversial Star Wars: The Last Jedi, was working on a Star Wars trilogy. Since then, he has created the popular Knives Out series, with its third part premiering this year. Despite his Star Wars project being uncertain and the second season of Poker Face approaching, Johnson is hinting at what his next venture might be.
What did Rian Johnson say about his next movie, which won’t be Knives Out 4?
The director hinted in a conversation with Collider that he might return to the universe of Benoit Blanc if Daniel Craig remains involved and they come up with a captivating concept for the character’s narrative. Regarding his Star Wars trilogy, the director hasn’t provided any concrete news yet. Instead, he’s focusing on developing an original story that steps outside the realm of mystery.
The director expressed that as long as Daniel Craig continues to be interested and as long as they come up with an idea that isn’t just repetitive but feels fresh, thrilling, and challenging, he remains passionate about the genre. He believes that its versatility ensures it will always offer new opportunities.

He went on to say, “Yet, I’ve managed to produce three of them consecutively without feeling drained at all. Instead, the next project I wish to tackle is something entirely original and devoid of any mystery elements whatsoever. It belongs to a completely different genre. What intrigues me about the mystery genre is its focus on unraveling the ‘whodunit.’ Similar to sci-fi, it accommodates various other genres. The upcoming film, ‘Wake Up Dead Man,’ contrasts significantly with ‘Glass Onion.’ It’s like comparing day and night. As we continue to explore such diversities, it keeps things fresh and exhilarating.
Details about the upcoming Knives Out mystery titled “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” following “Glass Onion,” are currently under wraps. The cast includes Jeremy Renner, Josh Brolin, Andrew Scott, Josh O’Connor, Mila Kunis, Daryl McCormack, Thomas Haden Church, Glenn Close, Cailee Spaeny, and Kerry Washington.
As of now, a specific launch date for Wake Up Dead Man hasn’t been announced. However, you can catch the first two Knives Out movies streaming on Netflix at your convenience.
