Joshua Vides Unveils Monochrome Garage for ‘Check Engine Light’ in NYC

Joshua Vides has brought the Check Engine Light to New York City, turning Morton Street Partners into a mechanic’s workshop that stands out with high contrast, featuring painted foam tires, racing hoods, exclusive acrylic tools, and a completely customized limousine as its eye-catching focal point.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but delve deeper into my appreciation for Vides’ latest exhibit, which made its grand entrance in New York City after its successful Los Angeles premiere. This exhibition expands upon Vides’ intriguing examination of automotive culture, artisanship, and the human yearning for status symbols, all presented in his distinctive black-and-white sketch style.

Collaborating with Cart Dept and No More Rulers, this show transforms the gallery into a dreamlike garage where practicality is elevated to an art form, and the ordinary is twisted into something cartoonishly eerie.

The core element of this project revolves around a zine and exclusive prints, launched by No More Rulers under their Capturing Creativity collection. This visual exploration is presented as a study, capturing Vides’ creative journey using a carefully chosen assortment of studio leftovers, moodboards, and production snapshots. It functions as a tangible extension of the exhibition, providing a peek into the thought process behind the work. Each print from this limited edition comes personally signed by the artist, with only 220 pieces available. Grab one today on No More Rulers’ website for $200 USD.

This exhibition overflows with activities! Today, you can witness a live conversation between the acclaimed artist Eric Haze and Set Free, who’s a multidisciplinary creative. Plus, don’t miss out on Eric Haze’s live painting session happening right now! There’s even more to explore at Check Engine Light, open at Morton Street Partners until May 6th.
