When is the How to Train Your Dragon live-action coming out?

The first installment of the live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon, directed by Dean DeBlois who also helmed the animated trilogy from DreamWorks Animation, is slated for release in theaters on June 13, 2025. A sequel has been confirmed, set to premiere on June 11, 2027.

The movie adaptation, which is inspired by Cressida Cowell’s popular children’s book series, features Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, Gerard Butler playing Stoick the Vast, Nick Frost in the role of Gobber the Belch, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs, Bronwyn James as Ruffnut, Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut, and Ruth Codd portraying Phlegma. There are additional stars involved as well.

Just like how the animated flick unfolds, I find myself embarking on an adventure that follows Hiccup’s quest to train a formidable, yet mischievous dragon by the name of Toothless in its remake version.

In the rugged island of Berk, where generations have seen Vikings and dragons locked in endless enmity, I, Hiccup, stand out. As the creative yet often dismissed son of Chief Stoick the Vast, I break centuries of tradition when I form an unusual friendship with Toothless, a dragon feared as a Night Fury. This unexpected bond uncovers the real essence of dragons, shaking the very pillars of Viking society to its core.

It stated, ‘Accompanied by bold Astrid and peculiar blacksmith Gobber, Hiccup encounters a world marred by fear and misconception. As an age-old danger arises, threatening both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s bond with Toothless becomes crucial in shaping a novel future. They must tread carefully along the delicate path towards peace, transcending the limits of their realms and reshaping the definition of heroism and leadership.’

How to Train Your Dragon hits theaters on June 13.
