In 2023, Meta unveiled Threads as a countermeasure to the mounting criticism towards Twitter post-Elon Musk’s acquisition. This text-based application experienced rapid initial success and has since surpassed a notable achievement by amassing over 350 million users.
During a Q1 2025 earnings conference, Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, shared an update on their product, Threads. He stated that Threads currently has over 350 million active users and is projected to emerge as our next significant social application. Furthermore, Zuckerberg discussed the advantages of integrating AI into the company’s offerings and its potential influence on content creation.
In just under a week after its launch in 2023, Threads amassed over 100 million users. Despite some criticisms regarding its limited features, it swiftly demonstrated that there was indeed a strong demand for a robust and effective substitute to both Twitter and X.
