Agents of SHIELD’s Adrianne Palicki Had Talks to Play Mockingbird in MCU Movies

Adrianne Palicki, who portrayed the character Bobbi Morse, also known as Mockingbird, in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., has revealed the reason behind the cancellation of her character’s spin-off series. The TV show, Agents of SHIELD, debuted on ABC in September 2013, with Clark Gregg leading as Agent Phil Coulson, and ran for 7 seasons until August 2020.

Adrianne Palicki’s Mockingbird could’ve appeared in MCU movies after Agents of SHIELD

In a recent interview with The Direct, Adrianne Palicki opened up about her upcoming project The Salamander King, and during the conversation, she reminisced on the Mockingbird spin-off that unfortunately didn’t make it to production.

It was disclosed that based on discussions that took place, she “intended to take part in the films or there would be a spin-off featuring her.” The Mockingbird spin-off series, known as Marvel’s Most Wanted, had Adelaide Kane portraying Morse and Nick Blood playing Lance Hunter, who were both characters from Agents of SHIELD.

Despite producing a decent spin-off, ABC decided to discontinue all its Marvel series, which led to the cancellation of our show. As Palicki explained, “We made a spin-off that turned out well, but at that moment, ABC was phasing out all their Marvel shows. Shows like ‘Agent Carter’ were cancelled, ours didn’t get renewed, and ‘Agents of SHIELD’ was approaching syndication, so it remained.

She expressed her disappointment, saying, “That was a major letdown for me since I adore portraying Bobbi Morse. I’m a fan of Mockingbird, so… What’s unfortunate is that the show is excellent.” Additionally, she voiced her doubts about whether fans would get to see the spin-off’s premiere and stated, “I don’t believe they’ll ever screen the Mockingbird spin-off… You understand, I had to visit the producer’s office and sign a document just to watch it.

Although Palicki didn’t get a chance to reappear as Mockingbird in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it was unveiled in the finale of Hawkeye that Clint Barton’s wife, Laura, had been Agent 19/Mockingbird. This was hinted at when Barton gave Laura a Rolex watch marked with number 19 and a SHIELD insignia, suggesting that she had previously served as Mockingbird in the MCU.
