New Weapons Images Released, Barbarian Director Talks Twisty Horror Movie

New images from Zach Cregger’s Weapons have been released.

In August, the horror film “Weapons” is set to hit U.S. theaters. This motion picture is the latest work of director Cregger, who has previously directed 2022’s “Barbarian” and recently produced 2025’s “Companion.” Starring Josh Brolin and Julia Garner, this chilling production promises to keep audiences on edge.

Take a peek at the latest Weapon stills (as shared by Discussing Film) for a sneak preview of Garner and Brolin’s character portrayals in the upcoming film, presented here:

What did Zach Cregger say about Weapons?

The story revolves around an ensemble of seventeen kids who inexplicably vanish from their houses on a typical Wednesday morning at 2:17 am. These children were never seen again, causing the community to struggle with understanding the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cregger hinted that the enigma surrounding the missing children serves as a driving force for viewers “for about half of the film, but it’s not the entire story.

He added, “The film will evolve, transform, and explore fresh territories. Rest assured, it doesn’t forsake that question, but it’s certainly not the entire story. By the halfway mark, we’ve ventured into things much more outrageous than that.

In the series titled “Weapons,” Garner portrays the character Justine Gandy. She is a teacher at a nearby school where, on that tragic Wednesday morning, all her students vanished, save for one exception. Simultaneously, Brolin assumes the role of Archer Graff, father to one of the missing children, and Alden Ehrenreich from “Cocaine Bear” takes on the part of a police officer.

As a gamer diving into this exciting new virtual world, I’m eager to team up with Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan – an awesome lineup, if you ask me! But, as teased by the director, Cregger, there are a few more unannounced heroes who will join us on this adventure. Can’t wait to find out who they are!

When asked if Weapons shares the same universe as Barbarian, since a promotional site implies this, creator Cregger stated, “I’d rather not make a firm confirmation one way or another.

Weapons will be released in United States theaters on August 8, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
