Greta Gerwig Casts Emma Mackey as the White Witch in ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’

According to whispers about Charli XCX possibly discussing roles in Greta Gerwig’s forthcoming Netflix adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia, it has been verified that Emma Mackey will star in the production as the main character, the White Witch.

As reported by Variety, Mackey has been cast for a role that was previously portrayed by Tilda Swinton in the 2005 film adaption of “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”. It’s anticipated that Mackey will be working alongside Meryl Streep, who is set to play Aslan – a character known for being a talking lion who acts as a guide and protector for the children in the magical land of Narnia.

Director Greta Gerwig is slated to pen the screenplay and take the helm for a film adaptation of the sixth book in the series, “The Magician’s Nephew,” featuring the White Witch as the primary character. The anticipated Narnia film is scheduled for a global cinema release on Thanksgiving Day 2026, followed by streaming on Netflix. Gerwig has garnered significant acclaim with her 2023 blockbuster “Barbie,” which raked in over $1.4 billion USD and starred/was produced by Margot Robbie. Notably, Gemma Mackey, recognized for her role in Netflix’s “Sex Education,” is expected to join the cast. Keep an eye out for further casting announcements.
