The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered Has Shattered Its Previous Steam Player Count Record

Summary

  • Ever since it shadowdropped earlier this week, Oblivion Remastered has been a massive hit.
  • It previously had a record of 182,298 concurrent players on Steam, which is obviously very strong.
  • That record has already been broken over the weekend, with a new peak count already recorded.

Over the weekend, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered surpassed its former number of simultaneous players on Steam, as an increasing number of individuals are choosing to relive the adventures in Cyrodiil.

Ever since whispers started about a possible remake or upgrade of Oblivion, due for release unexpectedly this year, it was evident that something significant was brewing. As more time passed and the gossip heated up, anticipation for the project soared, reaching a peak when the remaster was accidentally leaked through Virtuos’ website.

Everything led up to a massive revelation by Bethesda, followed by what appears to be an unexpected release (shadowdrop) that has captivated everyone not currently engrossed in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The reception towards Oblivion Remastered has been overwhelmingly favorable thus far, as evidenced by the influx of players revisiting the golden era of 2005.

Immediately after Oblivion Remastered became available for purchase on Steam following its announcement on Tuesday, its player count was nothing short of impressive. In fact, as we previously reported, it had the second-largest single-player launch on Steam in 2025, reaching a peak of approximately 182,298 players at one point.

Given the unexpected shadowdrop occurring midweek, it’s no surprise that the number of simultaneous players would swell even more as we approach the weekend, with more players finding time to engage in Cyrodil. As highlighted by Twitter user Okami13_, this trend is evident, as the player count on Steam has now surpassed 205,000 concurrent players.

Based on data from SteamDB, a total of 205,499 players have been playing The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered within the last 18 hours. This means approximately 23,201 new users are now exploring this remastered version at once, which is quite remarkable for a game that’s nearly twenty years old and unexpectedly received an update.

It turns out that only one console platform is being used, given the recent disclosure by Bethesda that over four million gamers have dived into Oblivion Remastered.

Despite the weekend coming to an end, which typically reduces player numbers, Oblivion Remastered currently boasts over 145,000 players, demonstrating its ongoing appeal. This suggests that anticipation for a fresh Elder Scrolls installment remains as strong as ever.
