Jesse Plemons Joins The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping Cast in Major Role

The star-studded lineup for the prequel film titled “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” has grown even bigger as it’s confirmed that Jesse Plemons will be taking on a significant part in the upcoming production.

Who is Jesse Plemons playing in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping?

In the upcoming adaptation, Plemons takes on the character of a younger version of Plutarch Heavensbee, who was previously played by Philip Seymour Hoffman in the original Hunger Games films. This character appeared in several movies from the series. In The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), Plutarch is appointed as the new Head Gamemaker following Seneca Crane’s execution.

As a covert rebel operative disguised as a camera operator, I orchestrated the deadly 75th Hunger Games in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. Unveiled as the mastermind behind the scenes, I later rose to command the resistance forces in District 13. In Sunrise on the Reaping, you’ll first meet me as a cameraman, capturing the chilling reaping ceremony in District 12.

Plemons gained prominence for his appearances on popular TV series like Friday Night Lights and Breaking Bad, and has also graced various high-profile productions such as Fargo on FX, Black Mirror on Netflix, Killers of the Flower Moon, Kinds of Kindness, among others.

As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Sunrise on the Reaping, alongside Plemons, will feature Joseph Zada portraying the younger version of Haymitch Abernathy. Moreover, Whitney Peak, in her role, brings Lenore Dove Baird, Haymitch’s significant other, to life.

In U.S. movie theaters, “The Hunger Games: Dawn of the Reaping” by Lionsgate is set to premiere on November 20, 2026.

The upcoming Hunger Games prequel film is being led by director Francis Lawrence, known for his work on several earlier installments in the series. Produced by Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and overseen by executive producer Cameron MacConomy.

Billy Ray is currently crafting the screenplay for Sunrise at the Harvest Festival. Previously, he contributed to the script of the initial Hunger Games film that premiered in 2012 and was recognized with an Academy Award nomination for his work on 2013’s Captain Phillips.

Apart from his main roles, he has been involved in scriptwriting for films like Volcano (1997), Shattered Glass (2003, where he also served as director), Suspect Zero (2004), State of Play (2009), Overlord (2018), Gemini Man (2019), Terminator: Dark Fate (2019), Richard Jewell (2019), and several others.
