On January 9, 2025, the film “Rekhachithram,” featuring Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan in the main roles, made its grand premiere in cinemas. After its successful run in theaters, the movie was made available for streaming on SonyLIV.
In this retelling, the movie follows the narrative of Vivek Gopinath, a police officer who returns to work following a suspension. His problem with gambling has left a stain on his professional image, leading him to be assigned to Malakkappara – a forest region in Thrissur.
As Vivek commences duty at the fresh station, a delicate suicide incident surfaces: a prosperous and elderly entrepreneur named Rajendran ends his life during a live broadcast on Facebook. Since this case lands under Vivek’s purview, he and his team delve into their investigation, which swiftly uncovers a skeleton and an antique anklet.
As an ardent enthusiast, I’ve found myself utterly captivated by this unsolved mystery, refusing to let go until I unravel the truth. My unyielding quest has led me to delve into the annals of police records from 1985, where my tenacity was rewarded with the case of Rekha, a promising actress lost during the filming of Kathodu Kathoram.
In the heat of this deepening investigation, I find myself growing increasingly anxious, much like Vincent, as the truth threatens to surface. To shield it from view, he resorts to concealing evidence and leading investigators astray.
In my relentless pursuit of justice for Rekha, I found myself hot on the trail of Francis Thadathil. It was through him that the chilling revelation unfolded: Vincent, in league with his partner Pushpam, had masterminded a heinous plot to pilfer from a bishop’s safe and falsely accuse Rekha for the crime. Rajendran and Francis were complicit in the murder of Rekha, receiving hush money to keep their involvement under wraps. The ominous specter of Rajendran’s suicide had loomed over this sordid affair, threatening to expose the entire conspiracy.
After the truth had been exposed, Vivek approached Vincent who was currently taking care of his wife Alice, once known as Pushpam. In a heart-wrenching ending to Rekha’s sad tale, actor Jagadish, portraying himself, disclosed to Vivek that Rekha would frequently pen letters to him and often expressed her fondness for Mammootty.
In light of Vincent’s legal issues, Vivek manages to find Rekha’s relatives and hands over her lost anklet to them. Furthermore, Jagadish presents the detective with a photo of Mammootty, signed by the actor long ago for Rekha.

It’s fascinating that Rekhachitram employs advanced AI technology to bring back a youthful likeness of Mammootty from the Kathodu Kathoram period.
