Sydney Sweeney is increasing her influence in Hollywood as she’s set to star in the upcoming live-action version of the well-received video game, “Split Fiction.” Meanwhile, the director of the Wicked movie, John M. Chu, will be at the helm for this project, with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, known for their work on Deadpool, joining to pen the script for the Split Fiction film.
John M. Chu to direct Split Fiction movie led by Sydney Sweeney
According to Variety’s report, Sydney Sweeney is set to star in the film titled “Split Fiction,” a project that draws its inspiration from the cooperative video game with the same name, developed by Hazelight Studios.
Developed by Electronic Arts, this game centers on the unexpected predicament of characters Mio Hudson and Zoe Foster, two writers who end up trapped within the fictional realms they created. Penned jointly by Sebastian Antonios Johansson and Josef Fares, founder of Hazelight Studios, the cooperative action-adventure game predominantly features split-screen gameplay and is filled with platforming obstacles.
From March 6, 2025, Split Fiction has received an outpouring of praise from both critics and gamers. Moreover, it’s been a profitable venture for Hazelight, with sales exceeding two million units within the first week of its debut.
Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson’s entertainment company, Story Kitchen, is teaming up with John M. Chu’s production company, Electric Somewhere, for a movie collaboration, with Chu taking the directorial role. Interestingly, Story Kitchen has played a part in the recent successful adaptations of Sonic the Hedgehog movies. Furthermore, Sydney Sweeney will not only star in Split Fiction but also assume the executive producer position on this film.
