At the 2025 Time 100 Gala on April 23rd, Ryan Reynolds was present and discussed potential roles for him in upcoming Marvel movies like “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Previously, Marvel Studios had revealed more than twenty actors set to feature in “Avengers: Doomsday,” but there was no mention of Reynolds or his character Deadpool among them.
Meanwhile, it was recently made clear by Marvel’s head, Kevin Feige, during CinemaCon that the cast for Doomsday isn’t finalized yet. This has sparked excitement among fans, as they speculate that Ryan Reynolds might be part of Avengers 5.
Ryan Reynolds talks Deadpool’s possible return in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars
At this year’s Time 100 Summit, it was almost certain that Ryan Reynolds would be questioned about his role in Doomsday and Secret Wars. During a Business of Creativity panel with TIME correspondent Eliana Dockterman, the discussion eventually led to whether Deadpool might make an appearance as a supporting character in one of Marvel’s upcoming films.
Reynolds quickly agreed, and then shifted the conversation to discuss his experiences making the Deadpool films, following the negative reception to the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009).
2016 marked the debut of the first Deadpool movie, which was both critically acclaimed and financially successful, sparking the creation of Deadpool 2 in 2018. The latest installment in the series, Deadpool and Wolverine, made its premiere in 2024, integrating Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool character with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Similarly to Jackman, Reynolds wasn’t included in the cast list for Avengers: Doomsday. On the other hand, their co-star from Deadpool and Wolverine, Channing Tatum (portraying Remy LeBeau / Gambit), was announced as part of the team.
Additionally in the cast are Jackman’s colleagues from the Fox X-Men films such as Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast).
