At last, a fresh update for the PlayStation 5 is reintroducing the fabulous retro console themes which were initially released to celebrate Sony’s 30th anniversary earlier in the year. After the festivities surrounding their 30th birthday, these classic themes were temporarily removed, but they’re now back with additional new features.
New PS5 system update brings back themes
In a blog post for PlayStation, it was announced that the latest PS5 system update is set to launch on April 24, 2025. This upcoming update emphasizes enhancements in audio quality, while also reintroducing classic themes from the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 consoles for players who want their gaming experience to echo the past.
Due to an incredibly favorable reaction from our community, PlayStation is thrilled to reintroduce the visual style of the four console designs, allowing players to personalize their home screen on PS5. This announcement was made by PlayStation.
After upgrading my PS5, I discovered a fresh segment in the System menu – a place where I can tweak things! In this new area, I’ve found settings that let me customize the sound my console makes. Although it’s not official yet, it feels like we might be getting more distinctive themes down the line. Fingers crossed!
Moreover, the next update for the PlayStation console will introduce a fresh Audio Focus feature.
The company shared that activating the audio focus setting allows you to select from various predefined options, enhancing your ability to discern sounds like game characters’ dialogue, faint sound effects such as footsteps and rustling leaves, along with party chat voices for a more captivating gaming adventure.
On release, the new Audio Focus feature will have the following options:
- Boost Low Pitch: Amplify low-frequency sounds like roaring engines and rumbling noises.
- Boost Voices: Amplify voice chats, character voices, and other middle-frequency sounds.
- Boost High Pitch: Amplify high-frequency sounds like footsteps and metallic noises.
- Boost Quiet Sounds: Amplify low-volume sounds in a wide range of frequencies.
Users can pick the intensity of their preferred support for the latest feature, which comes in three options: Light, Moderate, and Intense. Moreover, the upcoming PS5 system upgrade grants users the flexibility to adjust the level of support across both left and right audio channels on headphones connected via USB or a 3.5mm audio jack.
Sadly, it appears that this particular feature cannot be utilized with HDMI connections through TV sets, AV receivers, or soundbars.
