Before officially unveiling the much-talked-about “Oblivion Remastered”, Todd Howard, head and creative director of Bethesda studio, confirmed that their team is currently engaged in developing “The Elder Scrolls 6”. This eagerly awaited role-playing game set in a fantasy world has been hard to come by since its initial announcement at the E3 event held in 2018, which no longer exists.
As a devoted fan, I couldn’t help but get excited when Todd Howard hinted at more work being done on “The Elder Scrolls VI” during the recent unveiling of Oblivion Remastered on the Bethesda Softworks YouTube channel. He casually mentioned, “Of course, we’re still working on the sixth chapter,” before delving into a heartfelt discourse about the enduring legacy of The Elder Scrolls series.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel excited about diving into the sixth chapter. What truly sets The Elder Scrolls apart is the ability to reflect on each chapter – Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Daggerfall, Arena. Each one of these games has made a significant mark in defining role-playing and open-world gaming for their respective eras.
Howard’s speech, much like “The Elder Scrolls 6” itself, is somewhat vague on specifics, but it does offer intriguing perspectives on Bethesda’s approach to the series development. Each installment in the series has been marked by grand ambition, suggesting that when “TES 6” is unveiled, it will continue this trend of epic scale and complexity.
Todd Howard Reiterates That The Elder Scrolls 6 Is In Development
No Update On Release Window
The event was dedicated to announcing The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, explaining why Todd Howard has been avoiding discussing TES 6. This is just another instance in a series of such evasions that will likely persist until the game is ready for presentation. At present, very little about The Elder Scrolls 6 has been officially disclosed, although a Starfield trailer from 2021 hinted at its possible return to Iliac Bay, nestled between High Rock and Hammerfell provinces in Tamriel.
In the main storyline, High Rock and Hammerfell were last depicted in “The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall” from 1996. However, unverified leaks hint that “The Elder Scrolls 6” might incorporate ship management similar to that of “Starfield’s” spaceship customization, naval battles, and dragon reappearance. It’s essential to approach these leaks with a good measure of doubt, as Bethesda has not shared any official information about the game since its 2018 teaser trailer, which merely displayed a logo.
Todd Howard’s Words Show The Elder Scrolls 6 Is Inheriting A Huge Legacy
Can TES 6 Define A New Generation Of RPGs?
As head of Bethesda Studio, Todd Howard consistently fuels the fires of The Elder Scrolls series, and while it may not be inaccurate to state that each game strives to outline roleplaying games and open-world games for their respective generations, a more suitable phrase might be: Each title was incredibly bold for the era in which it was unveiled. The eagerly awaited TES 6 remains highly anticipated despite the scarcity of information due to its potential to revolutionize the RPG genre once again. The numerous rereleases of Skyrim have become a running joke, but its enduring popularity and universal appeal have led to it being ported across almost every device available today.
In essence, there aren’t many other studios producing the same style of open-world RPGs as Bethesda, and the announcement of a new title in this series is always exciting. However, after the release of Starfield, there has been a lingering sense of doubt about The Elder Scrolls 6. Despite being successful and well-received by fans, Starfield has sparked debate over whether Bethesda’s approach to RPGs feels too outdated. Given its storied history in the RPG genre, The Elder Scrolls 6 will need to navigate its significant legacy effectively.
