Did Ilaiyaraaja send legal notice to Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly makers over financial motives? Brother Gangai Amaran breaks silence

Previously, renowned composer Ilaiyaraaja issued a cease-and-desist letter to the creators of Good Bad Ugly due to an alleged copyright infringement. Although the producers acknowledged the issue, online viewers expressed frustration since the musician has taken similar actions in the past. When questioned about potential monetary motivations, Gangai Amaran forcefully denied such allegations.

Ilaiyaraaja’s brother asserted that they were comfortably wealthy and didn’t experience a shortage of funds. Quite the contrary, he emphasized that they had ample resources at their disposal. In simpler terms, he said, “Is it possible for my brother to be in need of money? He has more than enough. The challenge is finding ways to use all the wealth we have.

When someone proposed the idea of using their wealth to aid others, Gangai Amaran firmly countered. He expressed that he had accumulated his money through diligent effort and felt his children should reap its benefits. He further stated that everyone else ought to strive for success independently. He made it clear that while he does assist people, he prefers to keep such acts private.

Gangai Amaran clarified that Ilaiyaraaja’s legal notice was not about seeking monetary rewards. Instead, it was about securing creative respect and proper acknowledgment of his work. He emphasized that the public continues to appreciate Ilaiyaraaja’s timeless compositions. In his view, if people value these works so highly, then it is only fair that Ilaiyaraaja receives due recognition for them.

He’s not illogical; he simply insists that the art and the artist should be respected, as far as I can tell.

Previously, the makers of Good Bad Ugly addressed Ilaiyaraaja’s legal notice in a conversation with Hindustan Times. They clarified that they obtained necessary permissions for all the songs included in the film from the relevant music labels. Since these labels own the rights, they adhered to the proper procedures and secured No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from them, ensuring everything was done legally.

It’s important to note that Ilaiyaraaja has claimed that the makers of the Ajith Kumar movie used three of his tunes without his approval, which he believes is a breach of both copyright law and ethical standards. He has asked for a compensation of 50 million rupees, an official apology, and the immediate removal of those songs from the film due to their unauthorized usage.
