Pixar has announced that they have brought on a new voice talent for the character Combat Carl in the upcoming “Toy Story 5”. Originally voiced by Rocky alum Carl Weathers, who tragically passed away at age 76 last year, this role will now be performed by a different actor. “Toy Story 5” is set to hit theaters on June 19, 2026.
Who is the new Combat Carl voice actor?
Veteran actor Ernie Hudson, known for Ghostbusters, has been chosen to voice the character of Combat Carl, a G.I. Joe-like figure who was seen in Toy Story 4 earlier. It’s not Hudson’s first venture into animation; he previously played roles in Clifford’s Really Big Movie (2004) and Batman: Bat Blood (2016). His voice talents have also been utilized in shows such as Superman: The Animated Series, Transformers: Prime, Robot Chicken, Infinity Train, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and more.
The fifth installment of Toy Story, titled Toy Story 5, is being helmed by Andrew Stanton (known for Finding Nemo and Wall-E) who also penned the script. This upcoming film will continue to feature Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, reprising their roles from previous films. The duo’s characters were last seen together in Toy Story 4, which was released in 2019, concluding with Woody choosing to stay with Bo Peep instead of returning home to Bonnie.

Currently, the studio hasn’t disclosed the official plot summary and complete cast roster yet, but it’s anticipated that Joan Cusack’s character Jessie will play a significant part in the upcoming edition. Furthermore, the creator has previously hinted at a “very good” narrative for the sequel.
I find this tale incredibly ingenious, and I’m considering revisiting it not just once, but perhaps five times! I honestly think the creators had something more than monetary gain in mind when they brought this masterpiece to life. If the script hadn’t been so brilliantly crafted, there wouldn’t have been a need for me or Tom [Hanks]. It was challenging to get this far, but once I started embodying Buzz Lightyear, it all felt worthwhile. I feel truly fortunate to be part of such an iconic character. We’re currently about a year away from its release. So far, we’ve reached the third act, and after that, we’ll polish it up, repeat the process a few more times, and then voila! It’s going to be quite the ride, I promise!
