Summary
- Attack Up provides a boost in battle that can easily be accessed through items or melodies.
- Defense Up skill increases a player’s defense, essential for close combat fighters.
- Earplugs help prevent monster roars from damaging hunters, allowing uninterrupted attacks.
The game “Monster Hunter Wilds” has been available for several months, allowing both series veterans and newcomers to acclimate themselves to the excitement of hunting. Yet, some less experienced Monster Hunter players might find themselves in a tough spot during combat. This is where status effects prove useful, as they can frequently shift the balance of a fight and rescue players just when they’re about to lose.
Instead of conventional weapons causing harm to monsters with status ailments, such conditions are less common and activated only by particular items or melodies played by Hunting Horn users. In times when additional power is required in combat, it’s beneficial to locate these advantages to enhance your might, especially when encountering monsters that may require an extra edge to vanquish.
1. Attack Up
Each Swing Of A Sword Is Deadlier

For Monster Hunter players who haven’t yet made Attack Up their preferred armor set skill, they might want to reconsider their strategy. Boosting the Attack stat is essential, particularly in solo hunts or when wielding less potent weapons. Fortunately, there are multiple methods to amplify your Attack, and one of them is always through Hunting Horn melodies. However, it’s important to note that there are simpler ways for all players to acquire the Attack Up status effect.
In the world of Monster Hunter Wilds, I’ve found some game-changing goodies that can give my attack power a significant boost. For a short-term surge, I rely on Demondrugs and Mega Demondrugs, which instantly pump up my attack strength. However, if I’m aiming for a more long-lasting advantage, a Powercharm is always in my inventory. And let’s not forget about helping out my fellow hunters; I can scatter Demon Powder on the ground to create an area where our combined might really shines!
2. Defense Up
No Worries If Your Armor Isn’t Upgraded Enough

Just as Attack Up is vital for many hunters regardless of their weapon choice – be it Insect Glaive, Dual Blades, Lance, or Charge Blade – Defense Up is similarly essential. This status boosts a player’s defense when a specific Hunting Horn melody is played, similar to how Attack Up works. Additionally, there are specific items that can bestow the Defense Up status effect upon the user, just like with Attack Up.
In simpler terms, Armorcharms function similarly to Powercharms by enhancing defense when held. On the other hand, Adamant Seeds, Adamant Pills, and Armorskin can be ingested for the same effect. This skill is particularly beneficial for players who prefer close combat with monsters, but may not appeal much to supportive players or long-range Gunners due to taking up an Item Bag slot.
3. Earplugs
Monster Roars Can’t Harm You

Instead of primarily concentrating on dodging a monster’s physical assaults, like poisonous venom or powerful tail swipes, some hunters might overlook an additional source of harm they can’t always dodge: roars. The intensity of a monster’s roar varies depending on its size, for instance, the well-known Tigrex from previous games, whose furious screech can injure and toss hunters.
It’s fortunate that there are both an armor ability and a status effect designed to counteract this issue. Certain armors incorporate the Earplugs skill, which effectively nullifies escalating roars from monsters, ensuring hunters don’t get interrupted in the middle of their attack, and at worst, avoid unnecessary damage. Although only the skill can thwart the strongest roars from Gravios or Gore Magala, Earplugs (S) and Earplugs (L) are generally sufficient to manage most other monsters.
4. Stamina Use Reduced
Charge As Freely As You’d Like

If you’ve missed the tutorial for Monster Hunter Wilds, let me clarify that the yellow bar at the top of your screen represents your stamina. Actions such as running, powerful attacks, and shielding can deplete this stamina. Consequently, some weapon types may leave you with no stamina, rendering you unable to dodge enemy attacks. However, by obtaining the Stamina Use Reduced effect, players can mitigate this issue.
This ability, Stamina Use Reduced, significantly slows down the rate at which your stamina drains compared to usual. If you often find yourself unable to fully charge a Hammer swing without running out of stamina, this skill could be very beneficial for you. It’s particularly useful in situations where many elemental afflictions like Iceblight or Waterblight speed up stamina depletion.
5. Knockback Negated
An Annoying Side Effect Of Getting Hit Goes Away

Imagery: A player is engaged in an intense battle against a formidable Nerscylla online, backed by three other hunters. Just as they’re preparing for a major attack on the monster, unexpectedly, a baby Nerscylla dashes in and disrupts their assault, enabling the adult Nerscylla to unleash poisonous attacks without giving them a chance to evade.
In such scenarios, it would be beneficial to have an ability like “Knockback Negation” at your disposal. Certain attacks from smaller or larger monsters might interfere with a hunter’s actions without inflicting any damage, which can be particularly annoying when using slower weapons such as the Great Sword. In situations like these, having a Hunting Horn user in your team who can bestow this effect through melodies or an Echo Bubble is highly advantageous.
6. Elemental Attack Boost/Status Attack Up
Let Your Weapon’s Power Shine

It’s significant to note that these two abilities, Elemental Attack Boost and Status Attack Up, serve different purposes. While Elemental Attack Boost amplifies a hunter’s Elemental Power on their weapon, Status Attack Up enhances the power of weapons that inflict status ailments. Keep in mind that Elemental Attack Boost doesn’t have any impact on weapons that lack an element.
If you’re using a weapon elementally charged with Fire, Thunder, Ice, Dragon, or Water for an Elemental Attack Boost, you’ll see improved results. For those wielding weapons infused with Poison, Paralysis, Blast, or Sleep for a Status Attack Up, they will become even more potent. Weapons that focus on elements and status effects, such as Sword and Shield, offer exceptional versatility and advantage when it comes to these skills.
7. Self-Improvement
Chasing Monsters Has Never Been This Easy

In the Monster Hunter series, no game has offered such a variety of movements as Wilds. The new mounts, Seikrets, are swifter and more beneficial than Palamutes from Monster Hunter Rise, but players might still find themselves wishing for more speed when dismounted. That’s where the Self-Improvement status effect proves incredibly helpful.
When the Hunting Horn triggers Self-Improvement, hunters enjoy an enhanced movement speed, which is just one of its advantages. Moreover, if Hunting Horn users replay the same tune as an encore, their attack power amplifies, and their attacks become less susceptible to monster deflections. In addition to the speed boost, these additional effects make this melody a valuable asset for hunters.
8. Divine Protection
Thank The Gods For This Defense Boost

Some hunters might find it hard to distinguish between Divine Protection and Defense Up, as they both lead to comparable results. While Defense Up enhances a hunter’s physical defensive capabilities, Divine Protection shifts the responsibility from the hunter to the monsters, causing their attacks to potentially deal less damage to hunters, regardless of their defense levels or elemental resistances.
Indeed, numerous hunters might find this advantage to be among three levels within their Divine Blessing, an armor that diminishes damage received by 15%, 30%, and 50% successively. On the other hand, Divine Protection serves as a status effect, offering similar protection without requiring an entire armor set or decoration slot. To summarize, reducing the amount of damage hunters sustain with each strike is generally advantageous.
