The movie titled “Thudarum” starring Mohanlal will premiere on the big screens on May 25, 2025. However, contrary to popular belief, the film is not a crime thriller but rather a heartwarming family drama. This clarification was made by its director Tharun Moorthy during an interview prior to the release of the movie.
During his conversation with The Cue, the director expressed concern by saying, “We’re creating a movie featuring an iconic brand such as Mohanlal, yet I’m apprehensive since people are discussing the film like it falls into a unique or distinct genre.
He commented, “Initially, we conceived the movie as a heartfelt family drama, featuring Mohanlal and Shobana rekindling their relationship on screen. However, the buzz surrounding it seems to be influencing people’s perspectives. Maybe, my limited directorial experience, having directed only three films thus far, is playing a role in this.
The director made it clear that the team has a firm grasp on the type of movie Thudarum is, but he expresses worry when viewers categorize it as a mystery thriller or a crime flick.
Discussing the movie Thudarum, it’s a drama starring Mohanlal as the main character. In this film, Mohanlal plays Shanmugham, a content taxi driver living with his family. However, when his taxi encounters a chain of issues connected to the authorities, he finds himself compelled to tackle every obstacle that crosses his path.
In the main cast, you’ll find Mohanlal and Shobana, but there are several other notable actors joining them, including Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali, along with a few more key players.
Regarding Mohanlal’s recent projects, he was previously featured in the film L2: Empuraan. The upcoming sequel to Lucifer, helmed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, will pick up where we left off with Ab’raam Khureshi and delve into the political repercussions that ensued in Kerala after the events portrayed in the initial movie.
Starting April 24, 2025, you can stream the movie on JioHotstar. Meanwhile, Mohanlal is actively filming for the movie “Hridayapoorvam,” working alongside Malavika Mohanan.
