The much-anticipated release of Hypercharge Unboxed by Digital Cybercherries is set for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, concluding the game’s platform tour. Although the adventure isn’t quite over yet, the dedicated team is already considering a possible follow-up.
According to Joe Henson in an interview with VideoGamer, it’s likely that his team will develop both a sequel and a VR version of the original Hypecharge Unboxed game. After a ten-year stint working on the current game, they have plenty of ideas for a follow-up once they can break free from the somewhat outdated structure of the original.
Hypercharge Unboxed 2 will be a massive step up
As a passionate fan, I can tell you that Henson, the game designer, shared some exciting news about the upcoming sequel. He mentioned that their small but dedicated team of five developers will have the opportunity to start fresh, building the next game from the ground up when they transition to it. Currently, he pointed out, there are technical limitations with the current game that hinder the team’s ability to add certain features or elements to the title.
In simpler terms, Henson shared that the upcoming Hypercharge game will embody every kid’s dream action figure collection, as it will include all the desired characteristics that were previously unattainable. Furthermore, he hinted at some impressive and exciting features that will be included in the game.
Additionally, Henson hinted that the upcoming sequel might venture into a distinct game category, contrasting the original which was a light tower defense game featuring wave-based combat. Although the designer hasn’t specified the exact genre of the sequel yet, they did suggest it will be an enjoyable and exhilarating one that promises to thrill fans.
As I type this, the team remains undecided about which engine will drive the upcoming installment of the series. Given their familiarity and past success with Unreal Engine 4 in the initial game, it seems logical that they would opt for Unreal Engine 5 as the next logical choice.
According to Henson, it seems probable that we’ll move towards using Unreal Engine 5. We need to explore its features thoroughly to determine the best course of action, but using Unreal 5 is certainly an option on the table. Plus, it’s thrilling to consider delving into a fresh engine as well.
Migrating to Unreal Engine 5 grants Digital Cybercherries the opportunity to leverage advanced technologies, enhancing the visual appeal of their existing toybox shooter. Features like Lumen lighting, Nanite, and additional benefits will contribute to an even more stunning appearance.
The prospects for Hypercharge Unboxed are promising, particularly with the upcoming release of its long-awaited version on PlayStation. After a decade of development, there’s still work to be done, but we’re eagerly looking forward to witnessing the outcome of its potential sequel.
