Netflix consistently demonstrates behavior that I find deeply problematic, if not downright harmful. To put it simply, I view them as operating in ways that are questionable at best, and in my opinion, borderline malevolent. The ‘Cuties’ controversy was the final straw for me, prompting me to sever ties with them permanently. To this day, I have no regrets about that choice.
Currently, with the movie ranking among the top 5 globally viewed films, coinciding with the weekend when billions of Christians worldwide commemorate the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, their savior and The Son of Man, Netflix has opted to remove the opening scenes from The Passion of the Christ, a movie frequently watched during this Holy week.
It’s astonishing to learn that Netflix decided to remove the Isaiah 53 prophecy scene from the beginning of Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” and instead display a blank screen.
The devil’s working overtime during Holy Week.

The Old Testament’s book of Isaiah, penned around a century prior to his emergence, contains a prophecy about the arrival of Christ as foretold in Isaiah 53.
Instead of viewing the crucial prophecy on Netflix, users encounter a 13-second blank screen. However, the original, unedited theatrical version with the full biblical text from Isaiah 53:5 remains untouched.
The Christian Post may have an explanation:
According to Dan Delzell, a pastor and regular opinion columnist at the Christian Post, Isaiah Chapter 53 is rarely read in synagogues worldwide and has regrettably transformed into a prohibited passage in Judaism.
Delzell references a statement from Eitan Bar, a Jewish-Israeli scholar, who noted that the 17th century historian Raphael Levi acknowledged that rabbis had historically read Isaiah Chapter 53 in synagogues. However, after this chapter led to debates and confusion among the congregation, the rabbis opted for a straightforward solution: removing Isaiah 53 from the Haftarah selections in synagogues. As a result, when we read Isaiah Chapter 52 today, we pause in the middle of it, and the following week, we skip directly to Isaiah Chapter 54.
As a film enthusiast, I’ve come across some intriguing chatter – some viewers claim they can still access the original, unaltered version of a movie. But here’s the question: Are devoted followers willing to gamble with that option? Maybe the censorship is geographically restricted, or perhaps there’s a lack of recognition for Christian values in the decision-making process at Netflix.
A History of Christian Blasphemy
I’ve noticed that it’s not an uncommon occurrence for major streaming platforms to modify Christian films. Last Christmas, for instance, Amazon made significant changes to It’s a Wonderful Life by eliminating the entire Pottersville ending entirely. Similarly, Netflix has been criticized for its treatment of Christianity as more myth than reality.
Additionally, The Christian Post mentioned an issue arising around Netflix’s film “This Christmas,” as some criticized it for disrespecting the nativity story by incorporating a song from Madonna, known for her strong advocacy of abortion rights.
Additionally, they presented a comedy skit where Christ was represented as gay, and there was a series titled “Messiah” showing a character professing to be Christ, demonstrating miracles. To elaborate further, similar controversial depictions may be found elsewhere. Thus, if you’re a Christian planning to watch any film or show about Jesus Christ this Easter weekend, it is advisable to stick with physical copies and avoid potentially corrupted streaming platforms.
