Marco actor Unni Mukundan REACTS to Shine Tom Chacko’s drug case, says movies should not be blamed; ‘Cinema mirrors what’s…’

Actor Unni Mukundan has spoken out about the recent arrest of fellow actor Shine Tom Chacko on drug-related charges and criminal activity. During a conversation with OnManorama, he emphasized that the film industry cannot solely be blamed for such occurrences.

According to the actor’s statement, it’s incorrect to claim that film depictions lead to an increase in drug abuse and crime rates. Instead, films reflect societal trends, they don’t promote drug use or have the power to shape society in such a manner.

The actor mentioned further that it’s important to uncover how illicit substances are finding their way into Kerala, particularly in schools. Regarding the criticism leveled at his movie Marco, which suggested it encouraged violent behavior and drug use, he stood up for the film, asserting its artistic merit.

The actor stated, “It’s regrettable that even in a nation with well-educated citizens, there’s still a need to foster awareness against drug misuse. The issue isn’t the movie ‘Marco’. After all, it’s just a film, right? The movie merely reflects societal issues; it doesn’t advocate for drug abuse.

In summary, the actor pointed out that cinema is frequently criticized excessively and it’s futile to place blame on it. He further explained that while issues like drug abuse and addiction are prevalent across all professions, the film industry draws more focus when these problems surface, as stated by Unni.
