On April 19, 2025, Tom Chacko, an actor from Kerala, was taken into custody by local police following a lengthy questioning session that lasted four hours. According to a report published by India Today, the arrest was made under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
He faces charges according to Sections 27 (the use of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances) and 29 (assistance in crimes and forming criminal conspiracies) of the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police plan to carry out medical examinations and further proceedings shortly.
As per the report, it was the Kochi police who arrested the actor on Saturday, following his escape from his hotel room. Shine Tom Chacko, who resided on the third floor, is said to have leaped out of the window to a lower level and made an exit through the pool area in order to bypass a planned police search.
It’s said that the event allegedly took place when the police were conducting a regular drug inspection. However, no illegal substances were discovered in his room, but his efforts to avoid law enforcement sparked suspicion.
After receiving a summons from the authorities, Shine Tom Chacko was required to report to the police station on April 18. Consequently, he was arrested the day after.
The events that followed were sparked when actress Vincy Aloshius spoke up about feeling mistreated on a film set by an actor. In a public setting and later on social media, Vincy indirectly referred to the actor, describing an incident where she claims the actor was acting strangely, with what appeared to be a white substance in his mouth.
Initially, the actor had made a report to film institutions about her situation, but it seems that her identity was allegedly exposed to the authorities. On April 17th, Vincy decided to withdraw her complaint, explaining that there had been a breach of trust and violation of her confidentiality.
