Lucasfilm Confirms Release Date for Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars’ Film Starring Ryan Gosling

Following several months of anticipation, Lucasfilm has officially announced that a fresh Star Wars movie is under development with Ryan Gosling in the leading role. Directed by Shawn Levy, this upcoming addition to the series will be called Star Wars: Starfighter.

On Friday morning during the annual Star Wars Celebration event held in Tokyo, Lucasfilm’s president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni announced their plans for a new film. Ryan Gosling and Daisy Ridley, who were both present at the livestreamed event, revealed that Gosling has officially joined the Star Wars franchise. Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Gosling expressed his excitement saying, “Being here among all of you is incredibly inspiring. The creativity, imagination, and love in this room remind me of how impactful movies can be, especially the Star Wars movies. The Force may be mysterious, but today I realize that the true force lies within the fans. All we can hope for is ‘May the fans be with us.'” Levy also emphasized their shared connection to the franchise by stating, “We’re fans too. We understand the bond between these stories and the audience because we’ve been part of it for a long time.

The upcoming “Star Wars” movie, titled “Starfighter,” will introduce a fresh cast of characters within the “Star Wars” universe and is scheduled for release around five years after the events depicted in “Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.” With this film marking the end of the Skywalker saga, it serves as the final installment in the current “Star Wars” timeline. At present, no additional casting information has been disclosed. “Starfighter” is set to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
