Archer and United Airlines Unveil Plans for NYC Air Taxi Network

Archer in partnership with United Airlines plans to establish an urban air taxi service throughout New York City. Their goal is to significantly reduce travel time from Manhattan to nearby airports, which would take between 5-15 minutes. This network will utilize Archer’s electric aircraft called Midnight, providing a swift and eco-friendly solution compared to traffic-clogged roads.

The Midnight airplane is built for quiet, emission-free travel of up to four passengers. Equipped with twelve electric motors and propellers, it aims for safety standards comparable to commercial airlines. Archer obtained the FAA Part 135 Air Carrier Certificate in 2024 and continues its efforts towards obtaining full Type Certification, preparing for operations.

Vertiport facilities will be set up at existing air travel locations such as airports and helipads throughout the region. Collaborators like Atlantic Aviation, Signature Aviation, Skyports, Modern Aviation, and Air Pegasus are teaming up with Archer to make these sites electric-friendly. This project expands on previous plans for San Francisco and Los Angeles that aim to electrify the infrastructure.

Based on statements made by Adam Goldstein, CEO of Archer, New York could potentially be among the initial cities in the U.S. to introduce air taxi services. This is due to the city’s high demand, favorable regulatory environment, and existing infrastructure. Notably, the air taxi service would seamlessly integrate with traditional airline travel, providing a hassle-free door-to-door journey for passengers.
