This year, the eagerly anticipated film “Retro,” starring Suriya in the main role, will be gracing the big screens. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, it’s scheduled to premiere on May 1, 2025.

On April 17, 2025, the movie was officially approved by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The rating it received is UA 16+. Additionally, sources suggest that the film’s running time amounts to approximately 168.30 minutes, which is equivalent to 2 hours and 48 minutes.

The film centers around the tale of Parivel Kannan, a character in search of his long-lost sweetheart, Rukmini. The plot unfolds as he tracks her down and encounters various obstacles throughout his journey.

Karthik Subbaraj has both written and directed this action romance film, originally known as Suriya 44. The impressive cast includes Suriya, Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram, Karunakaran, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Sujith Shankar, Singampuli, and others in significant roles. Additionally, Shriya Saran makes a special appearance in the film.

In a different phrasing, it’s important to note that Santhosh Narayanan creates both the music tracks and the background scores for our production. Responsible for capturing the visual elements is Shreyaas Krishna, while the editing duties are entrusted to Shafique Mohamed Ali.

On the professional side of things for Suriya, his latest appearance on screen was as the leading character in the movie titled Kanguva. This film, an epic fantasy production helmed by director Siva, cast Suriya in the role of a bounty hunter who interacts with a child endowed with extraordinary abilities.

In due course, it becomes apparent that an extraordinary bond exists between the man and the boy, one which spans countless centuries, tracing its roots back to the era of tribal combatants. Furthermore, the film boasts notable performances from Bobby Deol and Disha Patani, both making their debuts within the Tamil film industry.

Beyond the principal actors, the movie featured a group of talented performers like Natty Subramaniam, K. S. Ravikumar, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Ravi Raghavendra, and others in key roles. Despite garnering much anticipation prior to its release, the film unfortunately received unfavorable critiques and failed at the box office.

In the future, Suriya is now engaged in filming for a yet-unnamed project, provisionally known as Suriya 45. This upcoming film is under the direction of RJ Balaji, while Trisha Krishnan takes on the main female role.
