PS Plus players claim to be “cancelling” in waves following even more price increases

It has been found that additional increases in the cost of PS Plus subscriptions have surfaced in countries not previously announced by Sony, causing a wave of users to declare they are terminating their subscriptions due to these unexpected price hikes.

Even more PS Plus price increases discovered

Previously, Sony announced PS Plus price increases for the following countries and regions:

  • Argentina
  • Bolivia
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • Ecuador
  • El Salvador
  • Guatemala
  • Honduras
  • Mexico
  • Nicaragua
  • Panama
  • Paraguay
  • Peru
  • Uruguay
  • Australia
  • South Korea
  • Southeast Asia
    • Singapore
    • Malaysia
    • Thailand
    • Indonesia

On April 16th, it was confirmed that all mentioned items would see a price rise. Interestingly, after this date, consumers in Turkey and Canada reported receiving emails about a price hike, even though Sony had made no such announcement for these regions.

Per engagdet, for Canada, the new CA$ prices are as follows:

Essential:

  • $14 monthly (up from $12)
  • $35 for three months (up from $30)
  • $110 annually (up from $95)

Extra:

  • $21 monthly (up from $18)
  • $56 for three months (up from $50)
  • $190 annually (up from $155)

Premium:

  • $25 monthly (up from $21)
  • $69 for three months (up from $60)
  • $225 for a year (up from $190).

Just like other regions and countries mentioned, the price increase for PlayStation games took effect in Canada on April 16th. However, for those who are subscribed, the new prices will not take effect until after June 24th, at the time of your next billing cycle.

PlayStation gamers claim to be “cancelling” PS Plus

In response to the rise in PS Plus pricing in Canada, many players on Reddit have expressed their intention to “terminate” their subscriptions due to the perceived low value provided by Sony.

One user wrote, “and cancelled, thank you for the reminder [Sony]”, while another replied, “[Sony], you’re not funny and I won’t be renewing this again. Your behavior is absurd and unacceptable.” Essentially, the second commenter is expressing frustration and announcing that they will no longer use Sony’s service due to its actions, which they find irrational and inappropriate.

Many individuals are not only deciding to terminate their PS Plus membership but also expressing that this move could mark the end of their PlayStation journey. One user remarks, “Indeed, I’m calling it quits. This seems to be my catalyst for becoming a dedicated Nintendo Switch and PC user.” Another concurs, “For me, this is the final generation with PlayStation. Instead of waiting for the PS6, I will switch to PC gaming.

The primary concern about price hikes is that, while they occur, the worth of PS Plus subscription isn’t significantly improving. We’re still limited to three monthly games, and typically, the Extra and Premium additions are not substantial, with exceptions like the Blue Prince addition in April being quite rare.

In simpler terms, the worth of PS Plus seems rather weak compared to Xbox Game Pass. The latter is receiving highly anticipated exclusive games like the rumored Oblivion Remastered and Clair Obscure 33 on their release dates, while Sony only occasionally offers day-one releases, and even their top exclusives are not typically included in PS Plus Extra or Premium on launch day.
