Skyblivion devs see official Oblivion Remaster as a “win-win” for fans as we’re getting “twice the amount of Oblivion this year”

Not only did a premature leak of Virtuos’ Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remaster appear on the developer and publisher Bethesda’s websites, but it’s also set to hit stores on April 21st as officially announced. In response, the creators behind the fan-made project Skyblivion have shared their thoughts about the upcoming official release.

Skyblivion, a work-in-progress mod by fans, is rebuilding The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as if it were part of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Expected to launch in 2025, this project has been underway since 2012.

Skyblivion devs are fine with official Oblivion Remaster

In response to leaked previews of the Oblivion Remaster, its project leader Rebelzize stated that this doesn’t affect their team at all. Since the fan-made project delivers a unique feel and expands on the original game’s city designs based on concept art, Rebelzize sees the possibility of both projects launching in the same year as a “win-win” situation for fans.

On social media, the modder shared with fans that this project has always been a labor of passion and will continue to be so until it’s completed. For the community, it’s a double win because you’ll get twice as much Oblivion this year. The modder expresses only positive feelings towards those who created the official remaster.

It seems that the official Oblivion Remaster and the Skyblivion modding project are aiming for distinct atmospheres. For instance, the official release appears to be toning down a lot of the original game’s vibrant colors, whereas the modding project is embracing its stunning color scheme.

Based on rumors that have surfaced, it’s been indicated that the upcoming Virtuos remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is set to undergo significant updates to bring the game into the modern era. If these leaks prove accurate, the game will feature a significantly overhauled archery system, which should be great news for those who prefer stealthy approaches. Additionally, there are hints of a “Dark Souls-inspired” blocking mechanic and other adjustments being made.

Regardless of any circumstance, it’s accurate that Rebelzize has stated so: This year offers us two compelling motives to return to Cyrodil, and we’re absolutely thrilled about each one!
